Community Coach Program
The U.S. Probation Office for the District of Kansas develops partnerships with individuals who provide pro‐social community support to persons under post‐conviction supervision. The Community Coach Program is a six‐month commitment between a person under supervision and a community coach. The program promotes ongoing communication between the community coach and the person under supervision, preferably meeting in‐person at least twice per month. Participation in the Community Coach Program is a voluntary commitment, both on the behalf of the community coach and the person under supervision.
According to the Post Conviction Risk Assessment (PCRA), over 80% of persons under supervision in the District of Kansas have social networks as a dynamic risk factor. If dynamic risk factors are appropriately addressed, persons under supervision experience a subsequent decline in the odds of recidivating.
The development of the Community Coach Program provides the U.S. Probation Office a proactive intervention to help facilitate positive changes in the lives of those we serve by addressing social networks. Community coaches provides access or exposure to ideas, thoughts, resources, and beliefs that may be outside of the person under supervision’s typical experiences or environment. Community Coaches can assist with overcoming barriers that individuals face in the re-entry process. Community Coaches will offer support, encouragement, and guidance toward improved life skills and positive decision making.
